MKG-101 Kick Guard

Trailering and transporting can cause anxiety in some horses resulting in a tendency to kick the back wall of the trailer. Some kickers can be quite violent, and many can result in damage to the trailer, and more importantly injury to the horse’s leg. A horse kick can generate over 10,000 Newtons of force, creating a tremendously fierce impact. This magnitude of impact can result in severe hoof bruises, joint damage, and even fractures of the lower leg or coffin bone.

Miti-Gait’s revolutionary Air Channel Technology is tested and proven to absorb and dissipate energy from the most violent impacts including mine blasts. For horses prone to back wall kicking while confined in a trailer stall, the Miti-Gait Kick Guard will dissipate the impact energy protecting the trailer and most importantly protecting the horses hoof and leg from serious injury. Protect your courageous equine competitor from self-induced kicking trauma by installing Miti-GAIT Kick Guard in your trailer.

MTM-108 Individual Tiles (for DIY installation)

These individual MitiGator™ based tiles have air channels, internally molded into each cushion, that work by redirecting energy entering the system so that it does not continue in its original direction.  Energy is essentially deflected 90 degrees by the MitiGator™ air channels, thereby dissipating the harmful force.

In horse trailers, the vertical forces generated from road rumble, potholes, and vibration are immediately converted into horizontal energy by the Miti-GAIT Transport Tiles prior to entering the horse’s hooves and body.

MitiGAIT™ Horse Trailer Tiles (HTT) Installation & Care (Print / Download)

Items & Tools Needed

  • 3M 5200 Fast Cure Marine Adhesive
  • Silicone or Flexible Acrylic Sealant
  • Razor Knife
  • Tape Measure
  • 3M Marine Sealant Fast Cure 5200

Surface Preperation

  1. Remove existing rubber floor mats.
  2. Clean aluminum floors with a cleaner/degreaser
  3. Clean wooden floored trailers with dish detergent and a degreaser.
  4. Allow floor surface to dry thoroughly.

MitiGAIT™ Waffle Tile Installation

  1. Begin by configuring tiles to approximate finished lay out. The tile sequence for slant load trailers should begin at the right rear corner of the trailer, progress forward along the short wall, and then progress to the left along the long wall, and finally forwards to the slant wall.
  2. Using a utility knife trim the interlocking channel edge from the first row of tiles which will lie along the short wall. Then lay and interlock the Miti-GAIT™ tiles across the trailer floor, cutting the final row of tiles to the necessary width along the long (left or drivers side) wall.
  3. Proceed forward cutting tiles at the necessary angle to fit along the slant wall.
  4. Layout pattern with waffles on the floor and mark edges with pencil to assure a straight line. Trim MitiGAIT™ waffles (90o angles) to fit around any obstacles
  5. If desired, place a bead of 3M 5200 Fast Cure between each MitiGAIT™ waffle to secure a tight fit. 6. Repeat this step until all tiles have been placed on the floor.

Rubber Mat Installation

  • Once the trailer floor is covered with interlocked MITI-GAIT™ tiles, replace original rubber mats on top. Although no adhesive or sealant is necessary, applying silicone caulk periodically along the edges and seams of the original top rubber mats may reduce urine and debris from building up between the rubber mats and tiles.

Helpful Tips

  • Always make sure your working area is clean..
  • Use a sealing compound to seal any opening cut into the MitiGAIT™ tile to keep water/urine out.
